HAPPY BIRTHDAY GOOGLE SOME OF FUN FACTS TO BE KNOWN FOUNDERS OF GOOGLE LARRY PAGE SERGY BRIN

Larry Page, along with Sergey Brin, invented the world’s most popular search engine to date, “Google”. Google has an estimated 300 million users per day, with more than 2 billion searches conducted in a day, making Google one of the most visited websites on the internet.

Lawrence E. Page (better known as Larry Page), was born in Lansing, the capital state of Michigan, on Monday, 26 March 1973. 26 March is also the date of birth of many other famous personalities such as Alan Arkin, Keira Knightley, Kevin O’ Neal and singer Diana Ross.

Larry Page’s childhood is the reason behind his love for computers and technology. Coming from a home where both his parents were related to the computer science field, their home used to be filled with all sorts of gadgets, computers and science magazines. It was from here that he, at the age of six, started to show an interest in science related things. He eventually became the first child in his elementary school to submit an assignment in a word-processed form.

Larry Page’s father Dr. Carl Page and his mother Gloria Page both worked in the field of computer science. Carl Page was one of the first few PhD graduates from the University of Michigan. He graduated in 1965, when the computer science field was still in its early years.  Larry himself completed the Bachelors of Science degree in Computer Engineering from the same university as his father. Both of Larry’s parents were professors at Michigan State University. His father was a professor of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, whereas his mother taught a computer-programming class at the university.

Larry Page’s brother, Carl Victor Page Jr. is not as successful as Larry is. Carl sold his co-founded eGroups to Yahoo. In 2008, Carl went through a financial crisis. Earlier Carl had been far ahead of his brother in terms of success. However, a decade later it had all changed.

While studying at the University of Michigan, Larry Page made an inkjet printer using LEGO Bricks.

At the University of Michigan, Larry Page was also a member of the 1993, “Maize & Blue”, University of Michigan Solar Car team. The team was responsible for building the 1993 Maize & Blue solar car on behalf of the University of Michigan from 1990-1993. The car participated in 2 races, winning the National Championship in Sunrayce 1993 and finishing 11th in the World Solar Challenge. The car is now displayed at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, Illinois.

Google cofounders Larry Page and Sergey Brin were students at Stanford University. Brin and Page met in March 1995, when Brin was asked to show the campus to the new PhD students during Spring Orientation. Larry was one of the new students. Apparently, both of them did not get along well during their first meeting and argued the entire time.

Page and Brin eventually became friends and started a research project together, by the name of ““The Anatomy of a Large-Scale Hyper textual Web Search Engine”. This research paper later became the foundation for Google. Surprisingly, both did not complete their PhDs, as Google became successful.

Larry Page hired Google’s first employee, namely Susan Wojcicki. Susan was a fellow PhD of the founders at Stanford University.  It was also Susan’s garage from where the company started its first operation, back in September 1998.

Success for Google did not come easy.It required a lot of effort in terms of time and money. Thus, when Google got its first investment of $ 100,000 from Andy Bechtolsheim, both Larry and Sergey went to Burger King to celebrate over breakfast.

“Never lose a business opportunity”, is something that Larry Page firmly believes in. Therefore, when Google was developing the payment structure for its ad system, it was not a surprise that Page suggested taking goats as payment from customers in Uzbekistan. The reason for this was that Uzbekistan did not accept credit cards as a form of payment.

Both co-founders are said to argue a lot and have differences of opinion, which they believe is essential for their success and growth. However, a few things are common as well, like their hatred for golf and their Boeing 767.

Did you know why Google Head Quarters have a strong air filter system? Larry and Sergey’s strong sense of smell is the key reason.

Larry Page, along with Sergey Brin, gives the utmost importance to the SAT scores of their employees during the recruitment process. They believe that this information helps them judge employees well, in order to establish how intellectually sound they are and how well they will fit in at Google.

During August 2004, when Google started its initial public offering, Larry Page wanted the buyers to take a test prior to buying Google stock. His philosophy behind this was that the buyers should be well aware of what Google is all about. However, the US Securities and Exchange Commission did not allow it.

The press-shy Larry Page married Lucinda Southworth, sister of actor Carrie Southworth and a biomedical informatics student at Stanford, on a Caribbean island in 2007. She is better known as “Lucy Southworth”, a name given her by The New York Post. Their wedding was a lavish affair. 600 guests were flown to the island in a private jet and many A-listers were part of the wedding, such as U2 lead singer Bono, Leonardo Dicaprio and Johnny Depp, to name a few. Millions of dollars were spent on the lavish wedding, unlike the wedding of his partner Brin that was a small and quiet affair.

Larry Page has dated Marissa Mayer prior to his marriage with Lucy Southworth. Marissa Mayer is now the president and CEO of Yahoo, making her the youngest CEO amongst the Fortune 500 companies.

Larry Page is reported to be on good terms with Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, “at times”. They are said to have an on and off relationship with due to issues involving the Android operating systems.

Larry has been suffering from a mysterious illness, which force him to not attend recent annual Shareholder’s meetings. Apparently, the illness made him lose his voice, due to which he was unable to show up. Not much is known about his condition as of now.

100% SUCCESS PSLV C 35 SCATSAT- takes off today at 9:12 am, HERE ARE 10 THING YOU MUST KNOW

1.     The PSLV or 37th Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, carrying three satellites from India, three from Algeria, and one each from Canada and the US, lifted off from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh at 9:12 am. Around noon, ISRO said its launch was "100 per cent successful".

2.     Most countries launch satellites in a single orbit and even if multiple satellites are injected, it is in a sequence in the same orbit.

3.     What makes this mission a challenge is that the PSLV will launch its payloads in two different orbits. The twin-orbit manoeuvre was recently accomplished by European Space Agency's Vega rocket.

4.     "This is a challenging two-in-one mission which puts India in a unique league of nations having the capability to achieve two different orbits in a single mission," Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman AS Kiran Kumar earlier told NDTV.

5.     India's SCATSAT, meant for ocean and weather forecasts, cyclone detection and tracking, has been placed in orbit. India shares such data with the US, which helped them track Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

6.     Pratham, a 10-kg satellite developed by students of the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay, will study the total electron count in space. The 5.25-kg PISAT made by students of Bengaluru's PES University will take pictures of earth.

7.     The mission will also test PSLV's multiple burn capability which will be utilized in the last leg and will set a new milestone for ISRO. The whole procedure was completed within 2 hours and 15 minutes - the longest mission for ISRO.

8.     The stop-start of the rocket - while travelling at a speed of more than 2660 kmph - gives PSLV an edge in the multi-billion dollar commercial launch market. "It will open up new vistas to commercialise ISRO's launch capabilities for two-orbit configurations," said Dr K Sivan, Director of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Center.

9.     In another first later this year, India hopes to launch its heaviest rocket, the Geo-Synchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mark III, capable of taking up to 4 tonnes of communications satellite.

10.     The three Algerian satellites are for earth observation, remote sensing and technology demonstration. The US' Pathfinder-1 is a commercial high resolution imaging micro satellite while Canada's NLS-19 is a technology demonstration nano satellite for experimentation in helping to reduce space debris and for tracking commercial aircraft.

PEOPLE WHO MET SUCCESS AFTER TERRIBLE FAILURES

Failure is a part of business. Very few entrepreneurs ever make it big without first experiencing some massive failures. What truly matters is how you react to and learn from that failure. It is “an opportunity to learn and grow” and that some of the experiences that we go through in our lives (particularly the bad the ones)–often times turn out to be blessings in disguise.

Here are the 10 famous entrepreneurs who failed big before becoming successful,

1. Bill Gates

Bill Gates is now one of the world’s wealthiest individuals, but he didn’t earn his fortune in a straight line to success. Gates entered the entrepreneurial scene with a company called Traf-O-Data, which aimed to process and analyze the data from traffic tapes (think of it like an early version of big data).

He tried to sell the idea alongside his business partner, Paul Allen, but the product barely even worked. It was a complete disaster. However, the failure did not hold Gates back from exploring new opportunities, and a few years later, he created his first Microsoft product, and forged a new path to success.

2. Walt Disney

Walt Disney is the businessman behind the very successful theme park “Walt Disney World“. Walt Disney was reportedly fired by a newspaper editor for not having good ideas and no imagination.

Trying to persevere, Disney formed his first animation company, which was called Laugh-O-Gram Films. He raised $15,000 for the company but eventually was forced to close Laugh-O-Gram, following the close of an important distributor partner. Disney World is currently valued at $35 Billion dollars.

3. Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs is an impressive entrepreneur because of his boundless innovations, but also because of his emphatic comeback from an almost irrecoverable failure. Jobs found success in his 20s when Apple became a massive empire, but when he was 30, Apple’s board of directors decided to fire him.

Jobs founded a new company, NeXT, which was eventually acquired by Apple. Once back at Apple, Jobs proved his capacity for greatness by reinventing the company’s image and taking the Apple brand to new heights.

4. Oprah Winfrey

Hailed as the “ Queen of Daytime Talk TV” Winfrey was fired from her news reporter gig at a Baltimore news station. Oprah went on to build a successful following from her daytime talk show “The Oprah Winfrey Show”. Oprah’s net worth is currently valued at 2.7 billion dollars.

5. Tim Ferris

Known for his best selling book “The 4 Hour Workweek” was turned down by 25 publishers before it was finally picked up. Tim’s book went on to sell millions of copies making him a force to be reckoned with in the Entrepreneurship landscape.

6. Arianna Huffington

It’s hard to believe that one of the most recognizable names in online publications was once rejected by three dozen major publishers. Huffington’s second book, which she tried to publish long before she created the now ubiquitously recognizable Huffington Post empire, was rejected 36 times before it was eventually accepted for publication.

Obviously, Huffington overcame those initial bouts of failure and has cemented her name as one of the most successful outlets on the web.

7. Jeff Bezos

Amazon is one of the biggest success stories of the online era. But before Amazon became a household name, the company’s CEO had several failed ideas. One of the most notable was an online auction site, which evolved into zShops, a brand that ultimately failed. Still, CEO Jeff Bezos would repurpose the idea into what would eventually become the Amazon Marketplace.

8. Larry Ellison

Ellison’s company, Oracle, has had its share of ups and downs. After Ellison dropped out of college and worked as a programmer for eight years, he co-founded the company with his former boss. But Oracle struggled for years before making it big. Ellison even had to mortgage his house to obtain a line of credit to keep the business afloat during that time.

9. Peter Thiel

Before starting PayPal and investing in big names like Facebook, Thiel lost big. His early hedge fund, Clarium Capital, lost 90 percent of its $7 billion assets on the stock market, currencies and oil prices. Still greater success lay ahead.

10. Reid Hoffman

Before co-founding LinkedIn and investing in big names like PayPal and Airbnb, Hoffman created SocialNet, an online dating and social networking site that ultimately failed.

It was mere fate, that she ended up being a probation officer in SBI, back in 1977. Bhattacharya had completed her graduation in Literature from Kolkata’s Lady Brabourne College, and went ahead to pursue post graduation in the same stream from Jadavpur University.

2. Entering the banking business was unintentional for Bhattacharya. While she was pursuing her post graduation from Literature in Jadavpur University, some of her hostel friends told her to give a try to PO (probation officer) exams for SBI. 5. Bhattacharya has a drive for innovation. Upon taking over the charge, she was keen on removing the perception that public banks perform in staggering manner and the services which they render are laggards. She was instrumental behind the introduction of SBI digital branches.

6. In 2006, she was real close on ending her three-decade old relation with SBI. At the time, she was posted in Lucknow. As she was not able to find an ideal school for her son in the city, Bhattacharya was close on quitting her job and returning back to Kolkata. However, she was prevented from taking the drastic decision by her boss M.S. Verma.
