What do you do when you click a picture? Store it in computer or upload it on social media sites to share it with friends right? Do you remember when was the last time you got physical copy of a photo (apart from passport size ones)? Well this startup from IIIT-Hyderabad is doing exactly the same thing, On JustKapture, you can sign up and select 6 of your personal photos from Facebook/Instagram or upload them from your smartphone or desktop and will print these photos & deliver them at your doorstep, for absolutely no cost.

The men behind JustKapture.com in the city, Rahul Agarwal and Manish Agarwal, IIIT Hyderabad products, too are giving crowds some fun as they go about their work. Functioning since March this year, this website helps people print images of their choice from Facebook and Instagram accounts at their doorsteps free of cost. The party is on to a user who can avail this service up to six times a month. Expectedly, there’s a flipside to the website that boasts of 30 sign-ups a day. They make revenues by placing location-specific advertisements behind the printed image.

“Our intention was to emerge as a unique advertising medium. The space behind a photograph noticeably goes unused when printed. By placing them in a location that’s not annoying to a customer and by giving them relevant ads to look into, it works perfect for both ends,” quips Rahul, as he throws a hint of having advertisements personalised according to the photographs, in future.

How did you guys end up having this Name?

While ideating for the name, we wanted to convey the basic idea that we help in preserving memories and experiences. A service that lets you capture your digital memories and convert them into personal, physical prints, seamlessly. We wanted a catchy name, with a slight twist, to make it unique and create curiosity. And so, JustKapture was born.

How did you made it to a startup?

Coming from a robust background (IIIT – Hyderabad), building and launching the website was not exactly a challenge for the team. Understanding our market, the stakeholders and all their preferences was a completely new obstacle. The stigma surrounding startups is quite negative, but once we started getting involved in networking activities we met a lot of accomplished individuals who were kind enough to share their advice and offer concrete guidance to help us grow. Though we did not have any direct competitors, we considered current online printing and deals/promotions based businesses as our main competitors.

Tell us about the Journey of JustKapture

With the increased usage of digital photography & social media networks like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and more; people have stopped printing their photos. Except for weddings & few other occasions, the charm of printing out photos & storing them, is slowly dying. We think this to be happening as printing has been a cumbersome experience for users.

Starting from saving, storing, transferring photos, to the hassle of finding reliable printers & getting free time to print the photos at a reasonable cost has deterred users from printing them.

Around 5 million people in Hyderabad have internet access, and this is growing at a rapid rate of 33% every year. We wanted to reach this target audience with a marketing mix of Traditional & event based promotions.

We participated in few outdoor events, made strategic collaborations and relied mainly on word-of-mouth marketing for the initial phase of launch. Launched on 1st March 2015, and as on 31st August 2015, we have already accumulated 3000+ registered users, while having printed & delivered more than 12000+ photos from 10 advertisers.

What Problems did you guys faced?

Too many to list here!

Jokes aside, we did face some peculiar challenges on our short journey so far:

Finding reliable partners for printing and delivery – Searching and then finalizing on partners who could work with our requirements, while keeping customer satisfaction as a priority was one of our biggest challenges. We tackled this with extensive research, trying different options and choosing the best performers.

Recruitment – Being a bootstrapped startup, we can’t stress on this enough when we say recruitment is the hardest job for a startup like ours. To find like-minded individuals, who share your thirst for an idea, who are passionate about the same issues, and who can work relentlessly to make ideas happen, is very tough.

Motivation – The motivation to work each day rigorously to make things happen, is one of the most common challenges, and as we’re human we faced it too. What worked for us? The feedback from customers

When asked “How do they do this business?” this is what the founding team had to say – “This is the best part. We partner with relevant brands which provide meaningful advertisement behind the photo prints. The advertisers pay for it and you get stunning photos without any watermarks.” The team is very confident about their future plans.

They say that there are around 5 million internet users in Hyderabad and this provides JustKapture a huge scope for growth.

“It was amazing to see the ‘thank you’ messages from happy and satisfied users! They were quite surprised by the high-quality of the photos and couldn’t wait to order more. Nothing is more encouraging than to see the end-users happy.”-says cofounder Rahul
